There are not many weeks left to go in the league now, with most people on 8 or so games. With that being said, the title now appears to be a 2, possibly 3 horse race! This week, we have a clash at the top of the table when first plays second in the league in a game which anything but a win for Real Sociedad surely gifting the title to their Spanish rivals, Espanyol.
Two teams who could have been seen as outsiders at the beginning of the year, with their odds placed at 8th and 9th placed respectively, are now challenging for the title! Fin84’s Sociedad and Fran_Bron’s Espanyol have ended up ahead of the likes of favourites Matt (who Fran beat on a pooled game) and DT, who were heavily favoured at the beginning of the year. Chris, joint favourite at the time has also fallen, all the way down to one from last (sorry) and could be in for relegation, supposing there are two leagues next season!
So how have these two come from almost out of nowhere to on the brink of League Glory?
Both sides have been in great form of late, dropping just 2 points in 10 games between them! Fran has notably still got some tough fixtures against regulars Shepy, Scottshep, Sharkey, DT and Flux still to come but has picked up some impressive wins of late, even if he didn’t have to play games for some of them.
Fin84 has also been impressive of late, picking up from a poor start of 4 points from a possible 9 and has picked up wins against Matt and Spurs Ben of late to revive his season and leave him just 5 points off of the top. It is hard to pick a winner from these two off form so expect a game with many goals (0-0 guaranteed).
Espanyol appear to be in good form at the moment, with keeper Lopes who was already playing out of his skin being upgraded to an 83! A scary sight for any striker. Winger Perez will also be useful as he has gone up to an 80 rated! Other key players include Caicedo and Lopez at RB. Both have no upgrades but Caicedo has been in good form for Fran this season, scoring a potentially Golden Ball winning amount of goals for the team whilst Lopez can do anything and as Captain will need to be on top form during the game
Real Sociedad are in stunning form of late in real life, leading to hefty upgrades for all but 2 of their default starting 11 and more! Key players for them will yet again be Martinez who has stayed at 81, and Vela who is at 84 now but Rulli in goal could win them the game, at now 85 rated, surely the highest rated in the league! Madrid reject Illarramendi could be a game changer if he can get on the ball too!
Here, there is a clear edge to Sociedad in terms of rating at least, with significant ot nearly all of their key players
There are many factors who wins this game, such as connection and who scores the first goal. If the first goal goes to Fran, you can nearly guarantee he’ll win and the ball will rest with his defence many times. However, Fin’s team gives him a slight advantage over Fran. Overall, I think that although Fin84 may outplay Fran in the game, however Fran’s tactics and his undoubtedly high desire to win the game (possibly the highest on the site), will carry him over the line one way or another.
Espanyol 2-1 Fin84
